my 7.5 merc 79-80, starts and runs good in a barrel. When in the lake it is hard to start and keep running. I learned from an earlier post that this is due to the idle setting that must be set in the water.

Is there a way I can get the setting close so when i get to the water it will at least stay running long enough to adjust the idle?

What way do i need to turn the screw?

Thanks

Re: idle setting in lake?

Your manual should tell you what setting is best. What I did is ran the idle screw all the way in then backed it out one full turn. After that I adjusted it in the water. Remember to turn it in small increments then wait 10 seconds before adjusting again.
