Idle speed adjustment on 15R76

More questions. I have the 1976 Johnson Service Manual for my motor now. The original knobs for both the Idle speed adjustment and the Low speed needle valve adjustment were dry rotted to the point of needing replacement.

I have an adjustment procedure for the low speed needle valve adjustment, but the manual doesn't appear to contain anything related to the Idle speed adjustment.

I've looked it over and it appears to be a "stop" for the throttle control. I'd like to set it up properly so I can adjust the low speed needle valve, but can't find anything in the manual.

The plan is to get it somewhere reasonably close on both adjustments, then properly set the plugs, points and other mechanical linkage adjustments.

The motor appears to have a lot of new parts on it, but appears to be incorrectly adjusted for a lot of this stuff. I'm thinking if I can go through it and get it setup right, the motor should run pretty well.

Can anyone advice on the setup procedure for the Idle Speed adjustment?

Thank you,

Dave

P.S. Thanks to ezeke for helping me out with the replacement motor cover.

Re: Idle speed adjustment on 15R76

tashasdaddy,

I'm just trying to get the throttle stop somewhere in the ball park so I can work on those other things. Right now, all I've got is new parts and the old broken ones for the throttle stop, the sticker labels it a Idle speed adjustment screw.
