Re: Idle speed adjustment

Hi, Roger.
Therfe is an aluminum cam attached to the linkage at the carb, starboard side. The throttle plate of the carb has a black plastic roller that rides this cam. This cam is concentric, and as you turn the screw the secures it, it will allow for more (or less) opening of the throttle.
You must loosen this screw, rotate it to the desired RPM, and then tighten it down. It's a good idea to put locktite on the threads, as this roller will vibrate back to it's most-closed point while underway....
Lousy design, but unchanged since Chrysler designed it.
I've allways wanted to install a solenoid out of an old tape player that I've had battin around, and put a switch up by the helm. The solenoid would boost the idle at the touch of a button!!! But I'm too lazy.
Hope this helps.

Re: Idle speed adjustment

The idle speed is changed with the slotted head screw attached to the 'tower shaft' on the starboard side of the motor...the eccentric 12 footers is talking about sets the throttle to spark curve relationship.....look for the index notch on the throttle cam, the roller should first touch it at the notch...to vary it changes the idle timing....using the slotted screw changes both throttle opening AND idle timing at the same time....
