I have a 97 50 hp evindude model E50ESLEUS that has a miss from idle to approx.3200 rpm's. I can see the motor cover shake and can feel the miss in the steering wheel and in the console. The following things have been done or checked:
New champion plugs gapped to specs.
Checked compression-140 lbs. in both cyl.
Strong spark to both cyl.
Link and sync checked.
New fuel hose and primer bulb.
Cleaned and rebuilt carbs twice.
Tried new ignition coil-no difference.
Tried new power pack-no difference.
Ignition timing is set at manual specs-19 degrees BTDC.at 5400 rpms.
New fuel tank-old one had gummy deposits-carbs were free of any gummy deposits.
No evidence of water in either cyl.
Have adjusted idle mixture needle valves many times-cannot solve miss problem.
No evidence of loose or broken hoses.
Reed valves do not appear to be damaged.

The idle mixture valves on both carbs must be turned out 41/2 to 5 turns for engine to idle- manual calls for 31/2 turns out.
I have spent many hours trying to solve this problem so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome brokenoar,

Would that be an OEM manual your using for those carb settings?

Thanks for the welcome MCM. The manual I am using is an evinrude manual for my motor and 31/2 turns is what is specified. Motor will not run at this setting. Have to set at 41/2 to 5 turns out.

The reason I asked is that the only idle adjustment I'm familiar with starts out at 1 1/2 turns. 3 1/2 even 4 1/2 seems alot. Kinda wonder if it was a typo in the manual.

You could try the section covering carb adjustment in this link from the frequently asked questions in the forum. If it doesn't work you're not out anything

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=36;t=000033;p=1#000000

Post back with any results
Good Luck ;)

I know 31/2 turns sounds like a lot. Most engines I have worked on the carb needle valves were backed out 11/2 to 21/2 turns. This motor will not even run at 31/2 turns. I have to set them at 41/2 to 5 turns for it to idle.

I assume your idle speed timing is set to 3 deg.

Good news is there's lots of people on this forum that know whole lot more about these motors than I do. Maybe one'll come along who knows this motor
