You guys have helped me in the past, so, I thought I would try again. I have a 1994 Force 90hp. It had a total rebuild 4 years ago, and has been running exceptionally well since. I put it away properly last year, ran the fuel out etc. The first time I started it this season it had an obvious high idle 2K+, and when I try to open it up it bogs down. My first thought was a vacum leak, so I did a brief check of the obvious and found nothing. All linkage under the hood moves freely including timing. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks

Sounds like lean fuel conds. to me. Check fuel system for probs. Pump diaphram, tank vent, etc. Anywhere a restriction might occur.

Re: Idles has increased, bogs down -no power

Now by no means am i anywhere near a expert on this but i had the same issue on my 85 85hp force the idle was high 2k plus, it started after i noticed the roller on the carb cam wasnt touching at all so i put a piece of small thin hose on it and got it to touch. It in turn set my idle too high and when i put it in gear it would either ddie or have no power. Took the hose off readjusted the linkage to where it doesnt touch like it use to and now i have my idle and i can get going again. I would check to make sure your linkage at the cam hadnt gotten lose some how and worked its way apart putting more open carbs at idle, dont know how possible it is but i had that same issue and that was my problem idle was so high i choked out trying to go into gear. Hope it helps some how.

Thanks Foodfisher/Tmalega,
I am changing hoses tomorrow, I will also check the carb cam and fuel pump/system. I'll let you know what I find. With regard to the fuel pump, I am just looking for blockage, or a hole in the diaphram, correct?

Hole, slit, any kind of tear or excessive stretch. Should be like a trampoline.

The cam itself is adjustable, and so is the linkage. No need for a rubber )
Top of the Force Forum is a thread from frank about a linc and sinc. This will set up the linkage right.J

Re: Idles has increased, bogs down -no power

I must have forgot to hit enter on my last reply, I'll try again- I checked the carb cam (OK) and then disconnected the fuel line to the carbs. I turned the engine over and gas would spurt 5" to 6" as I cranked. So I assume the fuel system is OK. I then pulled all three carbs, tore them down and used cleaner on all porting-reassembled. They looked good with the exception of #3. There was some corrosion on the end of the screw that attaches the bowl to the nozzle by bottom jet. I started the engine on the ears and it idled fast, but not as high as before. It sounded good when I rev'd it, but, I couldn't do much on the ears. In putting the boat in the water it sounded good. I opened it up and the motor started to respond for about 5 seconds, then back to the same 'ol thing. I am thinking of pulling the carbs again to see if I missed something. Any other thoughts or ideas?

I can't argue with that, if I wasn't going to follow your advice I wouldn't ask for it ....I just came back in from pulling the fuel pump. Both rubber diaphrams look to be in good shape. No holes tears etc.. BUT, when I was reinstalling the fuel pump I was staring right at the voltage regulator which has two 1" burns on the circut board. It is fried. It obviously needs to be be replaced, but, I am unsure if this is in addition too my original problem or the root cause. What do you think?

Hopefully someone else will comment. To quote sgt. Shultz, when it comes to electrics, "I know nothink".
