Idling problem

I have a 1985 Mercruiser (GM) 140 and have been at it for 2 months now and finally got it in the water.Problem is when sitiing at idle it revs up and then slows down to a near stop then revs again.I t has not been run for a couiple of years.New fuel,plugs points, tried carb cleaner but no joy.
Any suggestions ???

Ayuh,... Sounds like it might need a carb Rebuild...

Check the intake, carb base, and throttle shaft with some foaming oil for an air leak.
If you don't find one then its probably time for a carb rebuild.

Hi..thanks very much for the advice.Guess my first try will be the foamin stuff and then learn how to rebuild a carb.....always somethin new to learn.
