This is an interesting story and to be honest I don't know what I would do.

----------------------------------------------------
Transgendered Substitute Teacher Back to Work in Eagleswood
Tuesday, February 28, 2006 - Millennium Radio New Jersey

The Eagleswood Board of Education has decided to accept the re-application of a transgendered teacher, despite some concern from parents.

For five years...Lily McBeth worked as a substitute teacher in the Eagleswood school district as "Mr. William McBeth." After undergoing a sex change operation last year...The 71-year-old is eager to return to the classroom. McBeth says, "I try to teach the children and they also teach me, they teach me about myself."

But some parents believe the sex change could cause confusion among younger students at Eagleswood Elementary School, where the kids range between ages four and 12, and it could disrupt their ability to learn.

Cindy Tindall, a concerned parent, says it's a lot for a child to digest when a "Mr." turns into a "Miss." "I think that if Lily had come here as Lily, and applied to be a teacher, I would not have a problem with it," adds Tindall.

Steve and Lisa Bond have one child at the school, and another who will soon be entering. Steve says parents have a right to be worried, adding, "I don't feel that little children at that age should be exposed to that, because they're not capable of absorbing that kind of decision-making process from a mature standpoint."

Others feel the sex change should not be an issue at all. Leandra Bourdot and Jennifer Hinchman, both former students of McBeth's, give praise to the teacher. "McBeth is very competent. There's so many less competent substitute teachers, and I don't see how becoming a woman could change anything," says Bourdot.

McBeth says the human soul is what makes us all equal, and that should be the judge of everyone. "A soul has no gender...a soul is a spirit, and we all have one," says McBeth.

Eagleswood school officials say it's unclear when McBeth can officially resume teaching, adding it depends on when substitutes are needed.
