His was having prob elms with the coil and took it apart and now doesn't know where anything goes so I'm here trying to help him out. He wanted to replace the coil, and disturbutor. So basically I have a boat with a bunch of wires and I don't know where they go. Here are few pictures to kinda see what I'm dealing with. Any help would be much appreciated

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... I'm gonna move this to the Merc I/O forum for better answers,...

Have ya got a serial number for the motor,..??
I'm guessin' it's got an Alpha drive,..??

Do you still have the original parts,..??
probably nothin' wrong with the distributor, or the coil,...
Take a couple pictures further back, to see how much is left, 'n how much is gone,...

In my signature, click on Don'S Adults Only section,....
Then follow the links to the Merc factory shop manuals,....
All the wirin' diagrams are in 'em,.....

Trying to post picture as I type. The disty is there, but it looks like crap. So does the coil. I would like to get all new parts and wire it back up right for him

Ayuh,..... The distributor alone can be several hundred dollars,.....

It'll probably clean up, 'n run just fine,.....

Thank you. Later today I'm going to run and just get/order a new coil ,cap, and rotor. I'll post back once I get parts and start to wire as in sure I'll ha more questions. Since he pulled the disty out, I'm guessing I'll have to retime it ? Thanks agin for the replies so far

Yes you will have to retime it. If he didn't mark it just go to Mercruiser manual where it give distributor install with "engine disturbed". It's their way of telling you how to find the spot.
I would not spend for a coil unless it's bad. They don't often fail.
BTW The rotor is supposed to be locktited to the distributor shaft.
