ignition coil check?

I have a '98 Yamaha 115 - B115TLRW and read the shop manual to determine procedure for checking ignition coils - Motor has a CDI unit and it does not mention how to check the individual coils - manual gives ign. coil resistance specs for motors up to 90 hp. Then it only indicates peak voltage readings for the charge coil, pulser coil and CDI unit - no resistance check/specs for the ignition coils? Can you tell me how to check each ign. coil individually?

Re: ignition coil check?

That's odd. But you are on the right track. A resistance check would give a "go / no-go" indication of the coil condition. Check them on the 1000 ohm scale, and look for one that is not the same as the others (between 100-500 ohms for most coils).<br />They should be within 50ohms of each other. Any more or less, and they may werk, but cause damage to the other electronics.

Thanks 12-ft ... will give it a go. Don't really need the spec exactly i guess as long as you have 4 to check/compare- if there is one bad apple it should stand out from the rest. Makes sense - will check. Appreciate the help!
