I have a 1989 OMC 4.3 with points in the distributor. I have a coil that has gone bad and need another right away. I went to my local auto parts store but it seems like they have no idea how to look for a part on their computer unless it is on a vehicle. Is there a generic type of coil that I can use that would be in stock at a parts store instead of ordering online?

Try HERE. Click parts (upper left), and then click the drop down in the top right and choose Stern drive. Navigate to your drive.

I still did nor see cross reference charts

Ayuh,..... Take the part number of the right coil ya find there, to the parts house, 'n They can cross it, to their own product line,.....

If they can't, go somewhere else, they're idiots,...

The coil for your engine is OMC Part #0383444 still available. I can't hot link you directly to the page it's on. I wouldn't get an automotive one ...

Thank you Southkogs, I did order a new one. I just wanted an automotive one for temporary use until the other one comes in.
