I was told by a ex-mechanic that my 115 johnson locking up could have been caused by crossfiring. Is this possible and what can I do to check my ignition after the rebuild is done. From what I can see it looks like the lower crank bearing failed and led to my problems . Any information would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. Wouldn't I have noticed an ignition problem when I was running the boat it ran great and sounded great until the breakdown.
Thanks,
KYH

Re: ignition crossfiring?

Cross firing is usually caused by a dual powerpack setup whereas one pack would have a faulty blocking diode. This would allow both powerpacks to fire at the same time.

If this was your problem, you would have had a rough running engine at all rpms, firing out the exhaust, and it would have been imposible for the engine to have attained anywhere near its top rated rpm.
