Ignition- Intermittent power at switch

Just purchased a 1990 Larson Hampton 220 with a 4.3 Volvo and OMC Cobra outdrive. The problem is intermittent igniton. Sometimes you turn the key and it starts right up. Other times...turn the key....nuthin'!.....no power to gauges, lights, horn, etc., not even a solonoid click. Dead in either accessory mode or in start mode (but the bilge pump still works, which is a direct connection to the battery). Seems like the ignition switch to me, but being new to "Boating" was wondering if there was some other things I should be checking first.
Any help is appreciated.

Vince

Start checking for loose or corroded connections. On the engine and the switch. Could be anywhere.

I think you are right. If you have 12 volts on the "B" terminal of the switch and nothing on the "I" terminal with the switch turned to run, it's the switch.

Re: Ignition- Intermittent power at switch

just as a resolution to the issue....Don and Navigator, it was in fact a loose connection at the motor. Upon checking for power at the switch, I found there was NO power at the Battery side of the switch, therefore Switch was ruled out. I traced the wire back to the large "plug" on the motor...a little wiggle did the trick. It had just worked loose
So both of you aided in the resolution.

Thanks
