Ignition miss or what ?

A friend of mine has this 2000 Johnson 90 hp 60* V-4. It wiil idle fine and at wot it runs fine. The problem is at around 3500 rpm it has like a quick jerk or miss in it. This will do it one day and the next day it's fine. It has new plugs in it. Any ideas???

Check for any chaffing of harness coming from under the flywheel. The trigger wires can wear and short at certain positions of the stator base.

Carefully observe as the stator base is moved from idle to WOT and see if the wires are moving close the anything to short out on. (engine off)
