Cranking problem on engine. When battery is connected, engine cranks (or attempts too) regardless of position of ignition switch. Obvious answer is ignition switch but is there something else I should think about as well? Going to get new switch - starter and battery are new. This happened all the sudden. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

byarb,

The starter solonoid may be stuck. The solonoid is on the side of the engine, near the starter.

Try it while its in gear. The neutral safety switch should keep it from cranking if its a starter switch problem. If it still cranks in gear then its probably the solenoid as djohns suggested.
