Ignition Problem - 2006 Lincoln Zephyr

Need some help with my mother in laws Lincoln. She drove the car yesterday with no problems. Today the ignition won't turn. I tried different keys, but that didn't help. The wheels are straight and the steering wheel isn't bound. I don't have a clue what it might be (except maybe a bad ignition). Anybody seen this before. I appreciate your help.

By 'won't turn' I'll take that as stuck, un-able to turn:
Turn the wheel while turning the key.
Hold the shifter or move the shifter while turning the key.
Wiggle and jiggle the key. (technical term)
Move the tilt/telescoping lever.
There is a rod under the dash, above the steering column, try moving that.

By 'won't turn' I'll take that as stuck, un-able to turn:
Turn the wheel while turning the key.

Correct, the key will not move at all once you put it in the ignition. I've tried everything but the rod. I'll give it a shot (assuming that I can find it).

hopefully for u i hope its just jammed and wiggling it will free it. it is kinda common for ford's ignitions switches to wear out. i've replaced 2 in 2 different ford vehicles.
