Re: ignition problem

The orignial ignition switch had 5 posts;

Black ground to small M post at 3 o'clock
Black and Yellow to Raised M post at 9 o'clock
Red and purple to B(Battery) at 6 o'clock
Purple from horn to ACC at 2 o'clock
White from starter solenoid to S(starter)at 11 o'clock

The newer switches have push to choke, six posts and are wired as shown in this link. http://www.maxrules.com/graphics/omc_pics/REMCONTBOX.jpg

Re: ignition problem

Be careful about wiring a kill switch to your mags. Typically, you'll have a ground wire coming from each one and you don't want them to touch each other, even on the switch. If I was to use a toggle switch, I would get a 4 prong switch, or as the electricians would call it: Double Pull, Single Throw. This type of switch would have two positions (on, off)in the lever but four connections.

Re: ignition problem

I don't think you want to have your kill circuit wired to anything but the ignition switch and an emergency kill switch and in the correct manner - it's not safe to set that up in an unorthodox manner unless you are sure that you will be the only one ever using the boat.

The black ground wire on the ignition switch comes through the wiring harness from the engine block.

You really should have a factory service manual - it has complete color wiring diagrams. This one will cover everything you will need: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...l1313&_nkw=350356820176&_sacat=&_fvi=1&_rdc=1

Re: ignition problem

Fix the problem. Even if you have to run a new wire, it's not that difficult.

Re: ignition problem

The black wire with the yellow stripe should be connected to the number one post (bottom left) on your powerpack. If the powerpack is good, any wire to that post will instantly kill the fire when grounded to the engine block. be careful that no external voltage reaches that connection, or it will damage the powerpack.

Re: ignition problem

It has to be connected to the power pack to work.
