Last year we were running this motor when the transom clamp failed and the motor fell into about 10' of salt water. We retrived it, and fired it up in fresh water. I hosed it off as good as possible, and let it run for 15 minutes, starved it of gas, and set it in my garage until I could fix it.

Yesterday, I replaced the broken bracket and tried to start it. Here is what I encountered:

some of the carb linkage was stiff, the engine did not want to turn, and the accelerator ( timing advance plate ) was stuck.

After thoroughly soaking it with WD-40, I freed up all the stuck parts. Confident it was all working, I tried to start.

While there is gas getting to the cylinders, there appears to be no spark. I looked over the coils / condenser / contacts.. and there is a bit of surface rust, but other than that they are clean. I ensured a .020" gap, and tried again. No dice. I am tempted to track down a tune-up kit and coils for the machine, but I wanted to ask what troubleshooting tips would help me isolate the problem parts.

Thanks in advance,
-Ty
