Yesterday I put my 16' 1977 Evinrude 75hprwed boat into the water. I started it up and allowed it to run for a few minutes. After about five minutes it died and would not restart. Thinking it was the powerpack, I replaced it with one I knew was good (I keep a spare). It still didn't start. I have a spark tested and did not appear to be getting a spark on turning the engine. Since this is a 3 cylinder could my timer base or stator be bad, if so how do I test it with the conventional multimeter? I have a SELOC Johnson/Evinrude outboard manual which instructs me to use a neon testor light. Can't find one. I just rebuilt this engine and it runs great with my boat. Need some advise.

Thanks

TM
