i am having some ignition problems i have a 1975 skeeter hawk with a 85hp johnson, for some reason all of a sudden the motor doesnt turn or the electric choke doesnt engage when i turn the key i took the housing of on the throttle control and put a test light on the key switch and im not getting power to it. does anyone have a wiring diagram or can someone help with this? this all happened after i installed a new fish finder and i ran the tranducer wire along the side where the throttle control is and tied int the fuse block im thinking that i pulled a wire off somewhere.
thanks

Re: ignition problems

The engine fuse under the cowling may have blown. It's a small 20 amp glass fuse in the wiring harness by the starter solenoid. That fuse is just large enough to run the engine's starter and choke solenoid. Hopefully you are not using the 12 volts at the control box for any other accessories other than a tach. That fuse just won't handle any extra current draw. To make sure you don't get stranded out on the water, keep a couple of spare fuses in the boat and limit the current draw from other accessories tied on to the engine's control box harness.

Re: ignition problems

the fuse was blown, and i replaced it. as soon as i put a new one it popped that one too, so i took all my accessories off of the battery except the motor and the ignition, it cranked right up. i figured i have a short somewhere, so im going to add another battery and fuse block to run all my lights and fish finder, thanks for the help
