ignition sensor question?

i pulled my ignition sensor off a 2001 merc 5.0 it has two wires but the one i ordered has three one extra black wire will this work or do i need to return the malery sensor anyone know the cross number for a CU101501 cherry brand?

one wire should be grounded to the bottom of the distributor, two wires run to the connector. there should be instructions included to cover this with the pickup.
