Ignition Switch Wiring

I just purchased a 1986 Bayliner with a 1989 Evinrude 135. My question is the person put a new ignition switch on but did not hook up all the wires and I have no spark, power nothing. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what color wires go to what letterd terminals on the switch. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

GWetzell.... What is the "Model" number of that Evinrude? OMC did not manufactuer a 135hp in 1989.<br /><br />Wiring harnesses have changed their colors somewhat through the years. What color are the wires leading from the wiring harness on yours?

The Model# on the motor is 135489B The Serial# is J0002689 the wire colors are Red with a Blue stripe, purple, purple with a white stripe, black, black with a yellow stripe, gray, white, brown. Any help would be appreciated.

Your engine is a 1974 135 hp. Your best bet is get a manual for that engine. Clymer prints one and I believe you can get it through iboats. Click on "Manuals" at the top of this page. <br /><br />g'luck & c/6<br /><br />Hooty

Your engine is a 1974 135hp Evinrude.<br /><br />Red with a Blue stripe = "B"<br /><br />Purple = "A"<br /><br />Purple with a white stripe = "C"<br /><br />Black = "M"<br /><br />Black with a yellow stripe = (Raised) "M"<br /><br />Gray = Connects to tachometer<br /><br />White = "S"<br /><br />Brown = (Tan) = Connects to warning horn.<br /><br />NOTE... on some older ignition switches, there is no raised boss that the black/yellow wire attaches to. Those older switches simply have two (2) "M" terminals of the same appearance. On such a switch, it doesn't matter which "M" you connect the black/yellow wire to.
