ignition switch

I have a '71 Mercury 400 with Mercontrol. The ignition switch starts the motor but will not shut it off. Can I just replace ignition switch? The choke button and tach output are also inoperative.

Before replacing the switch, you might try checking the switch and the wiring first. The switch may be fine and your problem may be caused by a loose connection at the switch or broken wiring. An ohmeter and wiring diagram will tell you what and where to check for continuity when the key is in the off position. Just a thought...
