Trying to identify the ignition system (typeI, II, III, or IV) for a 1971 mercury 500 50hp. Have wiring diagrams in my service manual, but the engine has a magneto the colors of the engine wiring don't match the diagrams I have....any help is greatly appreciated.

Here are two pictures of the wiring side of the motor.....as you can see the pack rat did a job on the wiring so I need to redo it....trying to figure out the ignition type so I don't get something hooked up wrong.

Re: Ignition System Identification

The serial number is 3091947 the website doesnt find that number....I did figure it out I think based on the photographs and a service manual I have....I believe it is a Type 2 ignition based on the the colors of the switch box. They match the colors listed for the Type 2 ignition ...thanks terry
