Ignition System swap newer 70hp to older 75hp

Is it possible to swap ignition System...stator, timer, power pack...from newer '91 70hp to older '78 75hp and run?

Yes it might work.------But do tell what your motor is doing / not doing ?-----Why do you feel that the entire ignition needs to be replaced?----What trouble shooting / testing have you done?

It's an old timers boat. He had a used power pack installed, didn't last long. He had a new power pack put on by the same shop and same outcome.

I did an ohms test on the stator and timer, both test bad. Timer shorted to ground.
