Ignition Timing - Magneto Components ID

Trying to tune-up my ignition timing according to my Seloc manual. It says:

Disconnect magneto control link from base assembly.

What/where is the base assembly? There is a moveable arm underneath the flywheel that is attached to the magneto control lever via a link rod, is this it? Later it calls that the magneto plate, and the pulser. There is a mark on the magneto plate and there is a line scribed on the bottom of the flywheel. My link cannot adjust far enough to make those line up. Motor is at TDC for cylinder 1.

The C115 instructions sound more plausible, simply measure the links and adjust with timing light... but I don't have a C115, and it requires a test prop.

Am I crazy?:|

This is a case where the year and model would be more likely to get a helpful answer.

To be accurate, first line the flywheel mark for top dead center with the pointer and check that this is true top dead center with a guage. If not align the pointer correctly. Disconect the throttle cable and advance the throttle arm until timing arm hits the stop. Align the mark on the bottom of the flywheel with the mark on the stator arm. Read the max timing on the flywheel.
On that model adjust for 28 degrees by advancing or retarding the timing stop bolt.
Getting old and sometimes my memory gets foggy.

So, don't mess with the control link rod lengths?

If you want to make it really complicated, mess with the control link rods.
