ignition timing

Its probably been asked already, but does anyone have the procedure to set ignition timing on a 96 merc 3.0lx. Is the procedure on the seloc repair manual accurate.

It's detailed in the OEM service manual. If you head up to the Adults Only sticky (second post in this forum) you will find links to download (Free) the OEM manual.

You are going to need manual #13 for your engine, it's actually an 97, as 98 did not use the LX.

I adjusted the timing yesterday but when i diconnected the jumper cable and hooked up the interrupt switch, timing did not advance to 12 btdc, What does mean. is my dist. bad?

I made the mistake of not connecting the leads going TO the interrupt switch together, before setting the timing...and that sounds like what has happened.

When you do it correctly, the timing will change noticeably when the switch is reconnected.

Remember...the pair of wires that go to the switch wires need to be joined.
