Re: ignition wiring for a force 85
Check the neutral interlock switch below and to the side of the bottom carb. This switch has yellow on one side coming from the ignition switch (from the engine terminal board) and yellow on the other side going to the starter solenoid.
Sometimes because of compliance in the cables, the shift linkage will not depress the white button. If the button is not depressed, you will turn the key and nothing will happen, Pushing in the key in the start position, however, will activate the choke.
Wiring on the engine terminal board is: From the top:Yellow, purple, white, green, orange, red, blue, black, with blue jumped to black ground. If white is connected to anything other than white or is grounded in some way, you will get no spark. White and blue are the stop circuit. Yellow is the start circuit. It goes from the ignition switch to the engine terminal board to the neutral interlock switch to the starter solenoid.
Ignition switch is wired RED to "B" terminal, YELLOW to "S", GREEN to "C", BLUE to one "M" and WHITE to the other "M". "I" is used for things like gauges that must be powered when the engine is on and not powered when the engine is off. This includes the overheat indicator. PURPLE is used for tachometer signal, and BLACK is a ground for gauges and such.
