this is a motor i recently purchased with the #2 and #4 cylinders not firing, I have determined that this is due to a faulty sensor coil which can only be corrected by replacing the 'canned' timer base assembly. However after removing the flywheel i have a clear view of the sensor coils that would appear to be easily removed. Is this normal for a canned assembly, or has someone changed the ignition system on this motor, or even is it possible that it isn't a '73 as the paperwork says? Any advice or theories would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Dulind.... 1973 was the year that introduced the Magneto Capacitance Discharge ignition system. The early timer bases were not a "canned" sealed unit as are the later models, and what you are looking at is a 1973 135hp timer base assy.

The sensors appear to be removable, however they are not a servicable item. If a sensor is faulty, replace the timer base assy.
