I have a early 70's 140? Chrysler outboard. The engine has Motorola ignition with the finned regulator. The distributor is single wire points. On a belt drive. She will not fire unless someone hits ( with force ) the power pack while cranking. She pops a few times, then after 5 mins of cranking and popping eventually she'll fire and run normally. Seems to help to have a fully charged battery also. Checked the plugs and it appears there is some glazing which is telling me some misfiring. Is this the " power pack " going? Talked to a few marine shops but they could not offer any advice due to the age of the engine.

Make sure the grounds/contacts are all tight.Your choke working?
Do a compression and spark test.J
