Well I picked up a 115 Johnson 1973 (115ESL73M) and the ignition switch won't budge. So I got a new one, and when trying to wire it up I find the wiring has been "worked on" before. Many pigtails, some connected to each other some just laying loose. Some wires just cut off. I can't find a diagram for this harness in my Seloc manual. Anyone able to help here. This is what I am working with:
Harness: Red w/purple (larger wire)
Black
Black w/yellow
Yellow w/Red
Purple
Purple w/white
Grey
Brown or Salmon
Switch:
B
S
A (this has a double attachment)
M
M

The switch I bought from the marina has no wiring diagram in the box or anything. And the old switch had different posts on it. I am only wanting to wire this puppy up so I can work on the motor and use it to start. I don't even need to have a choke wired up (engine is on my stand) Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check this Serria web page, go to the page on switches, click on (Ignition Switches) #8. You will have to download a small file, It has a complete wiring diagram for most switches.I used it about a week ago when I wired in a new switch.
I think it will help you out. :)
http://www.sierramarine.com/

Re: Ignitions switch wiring

Thanks mono,

I checked the sierra site, but it also has an I (ignition) post on the switch. Where my new switch does not. I was able to move the two magneto wires from M to M poles. and the Battery from B to B poles. S to S and one A to A. The Purple with white was hooked to an A pole on the old switch, but it looks to me(and I may be way off here) that the purple and purple w/white are for the choke. Also I the brown and grey wires were just cut off previosly. I have no I post on the new switch and the old one had nothing hooked to it. For all I know the old switch could have been wired wrong to begin with.

The Magneto wires seem to be correct. But I could really use some color coding for the wiring harness. Anybody have any ideas?

Check this web page it has the wiring colors for most outboards. You will need to download the troubleshooting PDF file at the bottom of the page.
After you have downloaded the 64 page PDF file look at page #6, hope this helps. :)

http://www.rapair.com/Default.aspx?tabid=90
