Ok I'm ignorant on knowing this motor ......... Johnson 50hp manufactured 1993 model number.........
J50TLET?????.ET OR ETB...................I think

When I bought this motor there was not an oil tank.........the line for the oil at the fuel connection had been cut off short........inch or so............Is the oil tank a must or can you premix the gas/oil in the fuel tank?

Thanks.........

Mix your fuel and you can't go wrong. I never liked systems that are designed to do that for you.

Do a search up here on disconnecting the VRO if that is the way you want to go. You need to find out what steps the other guy did so far. 50 to 1 is the mix ratio if you eliminate VRO. Is the VRO pump still there? Has the line been plugged? Or you can buy a tank and get the VRO up and running if it is still there and if it works. Its kind of your choice. A factory manual would be a good idea.

Ok........Iv'e checked the oil line on the inside and there is no line connected...........there is a wire cut and end wrapped as if was connected to the pump but there is no connection on the pump that a wire would connect to .................so the pump may have aready been changed to old style?
