I recently picked up a nice 1988 Mariner 60hp( 3-cyl). It came with controls but the key cyl was damaged and there was no key. I picked up a replacement ignition switch (Sierra MP41080). I attempted to wire it into the controls but did something wrong as it blew the inline fuse on the red wire. (the original switch had no markings for B S M A etc.)

Can someone tell me which of the 6 posts the following current wires should connect to?:

Wires going to original switch's 6 posts:

1 - Gray I think?
1 - Yellow/Red
1- Yellow/Black
1- Red
2- Black/Yellow
2- Purple

On the new switch there are the following 6 terminals: (please match the above colors for me)

M-
B-
A-
S-
I-
C-

Thanks for any help you can provide.

You have left out ground which is black. Your ign switch will need to have it somewhere so it can ground out the ignition wire (black/yellow). Red is battery and goes to B; yellow/red is solenoid and goes to S; yellow/black is choke and goes to C; grey is tach signal, with no connection to the ign switch; Purple is accessory and goes to A;

Re: Igntion Switch Replacement Wiring

Thanks Chris. There are two "M" connections on this switch. The first is a screw/post which I have connected the two blck/yellow's to and the other "M" is not a terminal but a female tapped hole where I assume a screw is used? Do I need to ground to the control box from this screw? I wonder if one of the two blck/yellow's is ground to control box...can't really tell? If it wasn't grounded I suspect that this may have been the reason for the blown fuse?

Sounds like the proper place to connect the ground. Normally the ground will be solid black, however, I am not familar with your particular motor.
