Hello friends! John and Steele spike I hope you followed me here.
Engine:
1984 0r 1986 Mercruiser 140 four cylinder:
Problem: Oil leak
Here is what I have so far. I found fresh oil spewing from vent slits near the starter bendix, I placed a mirror in the bilge and found the oil to be coming from the rear of the oil pan. At this point I would like some input. My feeling is that the rear main is leaking, however could it possibly be the oil seal in the rear of the oil pan. If it is the oil pan seal can the oil pan be taken out without engine removal? Then if the engine has to come out is easier to remove the outdrive and then the engine or will the engine come out with the outdrive place appreciate your help.

Drive off 1st. Then pull the motor.

No you can't service the pan in the boat and absolutely pull the drive.

Make sure you are not getting oil leaking down from the rear of the valve cover mimicking an oil pan leak. My 3.0 tend to have a lot of blowby after running hard and could look like a leak. How much oil are we talking?
