Ok...so im about to just say screw it.....some may have saw my other threads.....I rebuilt my carbs...cleaned them up good (or so I think)...new gaskets...float, needle, seat...etc....anyways I went to finally start it yesterday, and it fired right up....before it wouldnt run on its on without manual choke being on....well after a few mins...it died i think from being cold or something.....I tried to start it back up, and the starter gear wasnt engaging the plate. So i charged my batter over night..

Aha!...now we are going again....went back out, fired right up. Now when i try to tilt my motor down from the up position, the motor dies. pull it back up and it will run again (mind you this is with water muffs on).

after a few mins of this, now it wont crank up at all...motor just turns and turns, but never fires over. Im beginning to say boating isnt for me.

Assuming that compression is okay... approx 100+ psi, even on all cyls?

And that the spark is okay (with s/plugs removed)... jumps a 7/16" gap, strong blue spark, all cyls?

Did you manually clean the four high speed jets located in the bottom center portion of the caburetor float chambers with a piece if single strand steel wire? Best to do so as solvent really doesn't get those jets absolutely clean.

Float level set properly?

(Carburetor Float Setting)
(J. Reeves)

With the carburetor body held upside down, the float being viewed from the side, adjust the float so that the free end of the float (the end opposite the hinge pin) is ever so slightly higher (just ever so slightly off level) than the other end. And when viewed from the end, make sure it is not cocked.

You say "when i try to tilt my motor down from the up position, the motor dies. pull it back up and it will run again". This confuses me..... The engine is to be started in a vertical normal running position (Down... NOT Up). In a "up" (tilted position) the fuel is being forced to travel uphill to the combustion area, the engine will not run normal in that position.

Are you running pre-mix fuel/oil or using the VRO pump to do this? If using the VRO in a normal manner, do not pump the oil bulb more than once after oil flows at the VRO oil line if needed. Continuing to pump that bulb will load the carburetors with oil.

Try pumping the "fuel" primer bulb (acting as a manual fuel pump. If the engine runs normally when pumping the fuel primer bulb, suspect a failing fuel pump.

for whatever reason now the boat will not fire at all...The guy i got the boat from said the compression checked around 120 on all four....i went out just now and tried to do my own, but couldnt get over 30 on any of the 4. I dont know if I did the test right or not....took one plug out, left all the others in with cables...pulled the kill lanyard and cranked 3 to four times...with none of them ever reaching over that....

With 30 PSI...it wont run. I'd check the gauge...maybe try another known woking gauge. Pull all the plugs!

Take it from a non O/B expert.
Take it in and just pay the tech to do it right this time. There is something (or many things) that you are missing or may not even know are bad. He can fix it, then you can just keep it tuned for the future.
It sounds like your about to give up on it, and thats fine but attack from a different direction instead.
Sure you are gong to pay a bill, but then it will run great and you will be happy. And why else do we work and earn money, but to try and be happy.

this is true....i tried again with all plugs out...throttle open....i only tried two and called it quits...one went much higher, but not high enough...then tried another, and nothing...so i said nevermind...put the plugs back in and one of the freakin plug wires ripped apart in my hand..

Go to the Top Secret File and learn how to do a compression test correctly. There is probably nothing wrong with your compression. The engine did start and run, didn't it?

An OEM Service manual might help you discover what you did wrong with the carbs. Runs tilted and not when not tilted is a carburetor float setting trouble.
