Hi guys, long time no type. I've been busy - between fishin and working on the boat. I installed some new gauges - tach, trim, and volt, so far. I've got a new water pressure gauge but not sure now whether it's the right range. It goes from 1-15psi and someone told me I need one that goes to 30psi.

I'm also looking for a new prop. By the tach and GPS, I'm turning 5800 RPM and hitting 39 MPH. The prop is a 17" pitch and the installation manual says that a boat my size and weight, needs a 23. I'm not sure I need to go that big but am going to try a 19 and 21".

Dan

Hey Dan, I would think you would need the 30psi WPG myself. My motor will idle almost at 10.
Let's ask the prop question in the props forum.
Will leave this open here also.

Re: I'm Baaaaack!

Hi Ron,

No, it's an old '86 Skeeter F-80 with an '86 Merc 75 hp. No JP and the prop is about 7" lower than the pad. I'm going to raise it two notches but I still need a larger prop.

This really wasn't a question about props. It was a howdy to the folks in the Skeeter forum, telling them what I've been doing. The mod moved it here.

Dan

Re: I'm Baaaaack!

Know nothing about your engine but most engines run 5000 to 6000 or parts thereof at WOT. If you are currently at 5800 with a 17, a 23 would shut you down.

Assuming a Mid range Merc, WOT is 5500 so dropping from 5800 to 5500 would put you in that 19".

Mark

Yeah, that's why I'm gonna try a 19 or 21 if I can find them locally. I figure a 300-400 RPM drop for each step up in pitch. Actually I need to check the calibration of the tach before I do anything. It should be real close, but I'm a perfectionist, and would like to make sure it's right.

I'm extending the deck, installing a new water pump impeller, and a couple of other things before getting serious about fishing.

Dan
