Im getting a free 25 hp johnson need advice

My brother got a boat with a bad 25hp motor. It ran but was very noisy. He pulled the head and the cylinder walls were scored a little and the pistons feel loose in the bore. He it giving it to me as a project. What I need to know is are parts available to re bore the engine and replace bearings. It is supposed to be an 86 year model. I am a retired auto mechanic and have worked on motorcycles so I have some knowledge and tools like mikes and hones. Anyone have an idea if its worth doing and a guess at cost of parts would be nice.

IIRC oversized pistons are available for once bored. Dunno if it possible to bore the cylinders in place, or if you need to take it to a machine shop to line-bore or something.

Can't bore it in place. Remove the powerhead and disassemble it all.

Machining + pistons + rings + bearings + gaskets, seals etc.

$400 or so puts you in the ballpark anyway.
