I'm looking for.......

I'm looking for a lake that has some mountains around it, near Smithfield, NC. When I say "near", I want to be able to get there in about 3 or 4 hours, max. I just want to boat and see fall foliage on the mountains at the same time. We ride the Harley on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but I want to see it from a boat, sitting still, not at 45 mph. Does anyone know of any lakes in the mountains?

There are several in NC. We go to Lake Chatuge which is in both GA and NC. Smithfield would be a long ride from there more like 5 hours.

Watuga Lake (TVA) just over the TN state line from Boone is very pretty in the fall. Probably 4 1/2 to 5 hours drive. Not a huge lake maybe 10-12 miles in length. Lots of little coves to drop the hook in that aren't yet developed.
