Whats up guys. I'm new here and the site looks great. I've got a simple question. I've got an 06 Glastron with the Mercruiser 5.0 and I'm trying to get ready for summer. There are 5 plastic wing nuts on the motor to drain the water for winter. I put them back in yesturday and went out to the lake. Well apparently I put one in the wrong spot because I had water coming out a different hole I didn't see. There are two on each side and one on the front. The one I left out was on the right side. But I had all five screwed in a spot. I know the one I left open needs one, but I don't know which one to take out? Is there any ports like the others that are left open?

Where is it coming out of?.....
Generally, there will be a drain plug for each exhaust manifold, & one for each side of the block.....
The fifth one should go where the water is leaking from, I woud think....;)
Welcome to iboats, btw.....:)

ain't a Ford guy, but take one to ace hardware and match it up in brass, then buy 5 brass plugs to replace yours. Maybe 6.

Re: I'm new and need help.

I took five out last winter. I put five back in yesturday and water was coming out where I should have put one. There is another port on the motor where I put one and I'm guessing it is supposed to be left open? I don't know...I can't find my owners manual so I guess I'm just going to call my dealer and ask. I thought someone might know if there is one that's supposed to be open.

Re: I'm new and need help.

Not sure about the Ford motor.

I have a 4.3 and there are 3 blue drains, I know my 7.4 has more then 3 as well as your 5.0.

On my 4.3 there are drains on the manifolds to drain out water then there 3rd is on the front side of the motor where the fuel filter / water seperator is. I think that is the same unit used on most of these engines ( well chevys anyway ) Does your fuel filter seperator have a missing drain plug?

On my 7.4 there are brass plugs in a few paces. I really need to look but I beleive there is one on front where the filter is. I can only think that if you have all the plugs in / on the block in place then this one may be the missing part.

Part # 22-806608 They have them here at I boats for 2.99 but shipping makes it over 10 bucks.

The machanics over at Bass Pro gave me one for free last week as I busted one off. NOTE DONT over tighten those damn plugs they can sheer off very easy and if you arent as lucky as I was to get the broken piece out you could make a 2.00 part a very expensive and time consuming project.

Ford hasn't been used by Mercruiser since the late 70's. He has a Chevy.

As far as the plugs go, it's impossible to say without know more about the engine and drive combo and what kind of drain system is on it. They are NOT the same as older engines, not even close.
