It's going to be long.... Its a mercruiser 120. In order, changed gauges and rewired, fixed gas tank, rebuilt the deck, changed inpeller, changed oils, gas filter, cleaned carb (was rebuilt last yr) did other small things, Checked compression - 120-125 across board. Changed broker throttle lever. Ok...now too k the boat out, water hose from T stat to pump split. Could not get it started to get back to dock - swam it to private dock. Next day got it started. Took it home, put on new hose, clamps and changed T stat. It will not turn over now and makes a weird sound when trying. Could distib have gotten too wet from hose bursting or something?? Burned out valves? Starter problems? What da? At this point it would have been easier to fix my slice in golf...kidding. Thanks! I'd love to get out before the ice starts to form!!!!

Does it crank. If not pull spark plugs and try to crank, water shooting out of the plug holes hope it's fresh water or your gonna need a new engine.

OK....somehow got it running. Seems like the throttle cable is realy sticky. The noise was like the engine was trying to get into gear real hard...hard to explain sound...almost like you throw it in reverse and it kinda thuds? Well it runs again...but does that mean that all is good or should I worry about it. Also, I feel dumb when it comes to carbs. The throttle flap/plate is down at idle/startup and opens up with throttle right?

Thanks

i'd worry about it. i think ya should check for water intrusion too. check the oil for over full and milky. pull the plugs and crank it over see if water comes out of the plug holes like noted above. that'd be a start. see where it leads you. as for the carb. the throttle plates are completly closed when at idle. or at least very nearly. they are horizontel. at wot the throttle plates are totally open, vertical. do ya have a service manual. they help a lot. as the cable. i've never had that problem, yet. but think i'd start at the carb. and disconnect it. make sure the carb operates smooth. then run the remote and see if the resisance is still there. if so. further invstigation of the cable would be in order i'd think.....
