Just wanted to remind those that need it. Its time for power squadrons and wildlife departments to hold Boaters Safety courses, the ones that get you licensed where needed. Most of the time its for free. Im going to the one in las vegas if anyones interested, its on June 12th. I dont know about other areas, but i know here they are only offered at the beginning of the season.

All I have to do is pay for the book and $10 for the wife to attend as well, otherwise its free out here.

So just a friendly reminder to look into it before its too late!

Quite frankly I am shocked there are still states that allow you to power a vessel without any certification. I'd be terrified to boat on their waters.

I went to the coast gaurd aux. yesterday to sign up for classes. They cancelled all classes until sept. Must be alot of boaters in Fl. but none care to learn to do it safely.

im old enough for it to not be required, but the Mrs. needs to attend in order to operate the boat. And thats no joke, she doesnt run the boat because shes not legal to do so. I do agree, you shouldnt be able to buy a boat and go do 40+mph on a lake without one. it is pretty amazing.

Where in FL do you live? Here in the Tampa Bay area the Coast Guard Auxiliary offers Boater Safety Classes all year long from the 1 day ABC class (very basic knowledge) to the 12 week BS&S Class (Much Recommended).
I belive this class should be a MUST for all boaters since most of the incidents we respond to in this area are due to uneducated boaters.

...here in Virginia the Bass Pro Shops offer classes on about a monthly basis.
