im wanting this boat however its leaking water from engine?

i was told it was rebuilt and as well as outdrive costing almost 3000 total 2 years ago and since then he has put almost 75 hours on engine and outdrive however while he was out one night he said he turned the engine off without idling down first (in his words i was at 4000 rpm and shut her down) and he said it caused it to blow head gasket and leak water

my quistion is that possible or do you think hes blowing smoke up my hoo haa?

im good with motors i have one im good at anyway lol

PS: its a 1984 mercruiser 3.0 liter any suggestions?

PSS: he also said it caused it to have gas lock is the reason it blew the head gaskets my quistion is it worth it sieng as how he has all parts to fix and i can do a head gasket no problems or do you think theres more going on?

still starts and runs just leaks water

He hydrolocked it, most likely. As stated, run. Not worth your aggravation, unless you want to rebuild it again. JMHO

do you think it could be worse than the head gasket maybe a cracked block? i can allways pull the intake off and look and see if theres any cracks?

heres the deal boats in GREAT shape and im only paying 500 bucks for it trailer is perfect even if the motor is bad isnt the parts worth WAY more than 500?

and how much is a short block for this thing i seen complete engines 3.0 for 3000?

How do you know it's in great shape? A shiny hull doesn't mean anything. A leaking engine means everything.

Ugh. Run away!! There are plenty of boats, and with boats, there are so few "steal of a deals" that they basically don't exist. If it's cheap, it's because it will cost you a fortune to repair. Period.

99% chance the motor will need to be replaced from water intrusion...
Not a head gasket.He either hydro locked the motor or it was not winterized and cracked.
If you are up to all the work and time swapping motors and the money involved then go for it.
Too many good running boats out there though...

Unless you are getting this boat at pennies on the dollar and you dont mind throwing money and time into it then good for you.. I would run run run there is tons of boat for sale keep looking....if the boat has these problems im sure there is more..

I'm on the other side on this one. 500 bucks for the boat and trailer? Check the stringers and transom for rot. Check the outdrive for water. If the boat is in good shape, besides a coat of wax, and everything else is working, guages, shifter, bilge pump, blower motor, decking, etc. etc. 500 bucks could be a good deal. Swapping out a 3.0 engine is really easy compared to the V6 and V8 cousins. Getting another engine is not all that expensive and you could still be getting a steal deal even with a blown motor.

Ayuh,... The Trailer is probably worth the $500....
Just Plan on the $3000. for a replacement motor,....
If $3500. is still a Good Deal for You,... Buy it...
If you Don't want to swap out the motor,.... Don't buy it...
