Impart some steering knowledge on me...

I have a 1989 90HP Johnson on a 1989 sylvan boat. (just purchased it)

I am just doing a little lubricating and I am wondering if my steering has a resovir? or is it mehanical?

Also, Does the chrome coloured metal shaft that turns the outboard need to greased or lubed or just give it a good cleaning?

it is mechanical. just a good cleaning, they do make a grease fitting you can install that goes on the rod end. about $10.00.

I'll look into that grease fitting, and I would just use the same water proof grease I use on the wheel bearings and else where on the grease fittings?
