impeller change on 1973-65hp Johnson seahorse

i have backed off the four bolts on the lower unit and it won't move how do i dissconnect the linkage assuming that this is the problem

Do you have the OMC shop manual for your motor? It is well worth the money and will give you step by step plus diagrams and photos.

There are also two bolts (one big, one small) under the skeg. The skeg unbolts, then you can get to the two bolts. Lastly, you'll need to disconnect the shift linkage under the carbs. There are two parallel arms in the linkage, and if you back off (unthread) the bolt that acts as the pivot, the arms will come apart. <br /><br />Not as tough as re-doing the torque amplifier on an International 450, but a manual's still probably a good idea.
