impeller change out

I have a 1985 omc 2.5l that was well taken care of by the previous owner.
I and am going to attempt to change out the impeller. as a preventive maintenance. other wise every thing is very clean. are there any suprises I should be aware of before I begin? like parts falling out when lower drive is removed. Thanks Rich...

The first surprise would be that the pump isn't there. You have to remove the drive, then remove the upper gear box. The pump is on the lower portion of the upper gear box.

I would strongly suggest the first thing you buy would be an OEM service manual before you start taking things apart.

I didnt ever think it was located in the lower drive. I have looked in various venues. and read the manuals as well and didnt want a mess thats all.. thank you Rich...

I have the omc manual Seloc # 3400 in the right hand corner 1964-1986.

If you get that one and have a question i can point you to the right page and we can be on the same page.

Good luck have the kit yet for the water pump?

yes purchased thru russel marine last fall and finally got it in the garaga last weekend.. dont even know if it needs replaced but thought it couldnt hurt and learn a thing or to in the process.. the next thing will be the fuel sending unit. 1985 penn yann tornado there isnt a float. its electronic was suprised for the year thanks Rich...
