Hello, in the process of changing my impeller and everything is fine except every where I read (merc manual, mercstuff etc.)there is a rubber "centrifugal slinger" on top of the plastic water pump body assembly.
My problem is on disassembly mine didn't have one.I have the merc seal kit for the whole upper end.
Do I need to get that part? Or do I put it back together the way it was?
Thanks for any info it is greatly appriciated.

Re: impeller change question

Ayuh,...

That slinger washer should be in the Impeller Pump Kit, along with all the other o-rings,+ gaskets...

An upper unit seal kit Won't have Any of the pump parts,...

Re: impeller change question

I bought these parts a month ago and was dealing with a guy that I've never dealt with before and I had to ask him for the gaskets as he only gave me the impeller in a bag by itself. From looking at pics of parts online I knew there was more to it.
I believe I was thinking of wrong seal kit as I also have lower seal kit, and it came with new seal for water tube , small seal for oil passage,o-ring for drive shaft.Other than "slinger washer"I believe I have everything.Haven't looked yet hopefully I can buy that, sounds like it should be there.
Thanks

while i don't know exactly the purpose of the slinger. it is supposed to be there. it does come with your mercruiser waterpump kit. so i'd put it on...
