Ok here's what I did...in novice terms so bare with me. Put it in forward on remote. Book said to turn prop clockwise. This is where I might have made the mistake cause I tried to turn the prop with it in forward and tried to turn the prop in the forward motion but it did not budge. Then I thought is clockwise from behind the prop so I turned left and it did click so I thought good cause the book said it would click. Lowered the lower end changed the impeller and then the fun begins. The "knob" that puts it in forward/reverse right behind the water pump kept turning as the prop turned. Thinking that it must be turn into forward gear since thats what the remote is, I turned it counter clockwise where the prop was resisting and turning the gear shaft. FINALLY got it aligned and started to tighten the bolts. Hey left me check the gear before I tighten all of them. Well here lies the problem. In forward the prop spins as if in neutral, tough to get it in neutral and wont go into reverse. Thinking I have to take it back down and turn that "knob" a certain way?? Sorry so long. From Merc 120. Hope you have a good easy fix and not say I really screwed it up!!!

Thanks!

Book said to turn prop clockwise.

And just what "Book" might this be?

To install the drive you turn the shift shaft in the lower unit clockwise, while turning the prop COUNTER CLOCK WISE. This holds the shift shaft in the forward position for installation. If you turned the prop clock wise, it moved the shiftshaft out of position and you missed
Raise the drive and look. The shift shafts should be connected.

Had the same problem. Turned out I'd aligned everything with the drive being in reverse, not forward. Drop your lower unit, and rotate the shift shaft fully clockwise. Leave the boat in forward, and reinstall the lower unit. Should fix you right up. :D
