Impeller Housing - Good or Bad?

I am working on changing the impeller on a 1985 40 hp Evinrude. After removing the housing, I noticed that there is what looks to be a crack in the housing, but it is also very close to a small cutout. Is this "hole" supposed to be there or do I need a new housing (there are none in stock locally).

This hole would be there, as this is a positive displacement pump at slow speed, or cranking speed, and would exspell air from the pump housing, allowing water to be drawn in, or actually pushed in. Once primed with water, the pump becomes a centrifical pump at higher speeds, as the impellor blades are forced back from the pump housing walls. Your housing is ready for replacement. Is this a salt water engine?

Thanks guys, I now have the full kit ordered. I was just hoping that I could get it done this weekend since I was able to get the impellar locally. I guess I now need to wait an extra week, which sucks since ice is coming soon and I need to get my fishing fix. I sort of figured this hole is supposed to be there, but it looks like it has grown since it is not a clean cut anymore.
