Impeller housing question

I know this is probably a stupid question but is the impeller housing where the impeller goes ... is it completely round or is it oblong in shape? I'm chasing a overheating issue and I went ahead and pulled off the impeller to change it out. I have a 7.4 mpi with a Bravo 1 outdrive. I noticed that when I looked at the impeller while it's in the housing it looks oblong in shape. I just wanted to make sure it's not suppose to be completly round before I put it all back together... and yes.. I'm going ahead and installing the new impeller even though the old looks looks new.

Yes the housing is correct. Water comes in and vanes are stretched out, as it rotates the vanes are compressed and the water is forced out

Housing looks a bit melted unless thats just the photo, best to replace it as a kit . Not just an impeller.
Could also be Bravoitis

That housing looks worse than mine did. They are pretty cheap so get the housing. The impeller is round but the housing is almost egg shaped to make it work.
