Installing impeller in 20 hp merc 79-81,.

Is the impeller so tight in the pump body it "bends" the vanes a whole lot?
Also I assume the vanes are to be "bent" in direction of motor shaft rotation "duh".

thanks

Yes, they are bent quite a bit when installed.

I assume the vanes are to be "bent" in direction of motor shaft rotation.
I would not say that they should be "bent in the direction of motor shaft rotation." I would literally interpret that to mean that the vanes are pointed in the direction of rotation, which is not the correct way to install the impeller. I would say it another way, which is that the vanes should be bent so that the vanes ends are dragged rather than pushed when the shaft turns. I hope this is clearer. Others on this forum may have a better way to explain this.

The vanes would probably correct themselves anyway once the motor is turned over with the starter, but you can't count on that...

Re: Impeller install

when you are looking at it in the cup the vanes should be facing clock wise
