I installed a new impeller-waterpump kit in my 1979 Johnson engine. I ran the engine when I was finished on land and I noticed a good amount of water comming out of the exhaust relief ports. Is this normal with a new impeller? I also noticed in the front part of the lower unit by the oil level plug there was a stream of water comming out like the case did not seal right or it had a possible crack, but It looked like the hole was suppose to be there. The engine was running good with no overheating problems like a had before.Do I have anything to wory about?

gstock<br />It all sounds good to me. You did not say what HP but may 76 15HP Johnson also has a whole that water squirt out on the front of the lower unit. I belive this is a drain hole to allow water to drain so if in freezing temps wont freez and break case. My motor outputs almost all water on top of cavitation plate if i use muff, in the water I get a lot of water out top exhaust hole also. If You are not getting water out at holes above the cavitation plate with muff you could have a blockage. On my motor If I put water in at top exhaust hole it comes out the bottom water output holes. One last thing make sure thermostat is working so motor warms up before water starts coming out.
